A Summer Smorgasbord of Information

FR-BAR "As Is" Contract; Webinars and other education; Real Property, Probate and Trust Law Section update; Predicting the Future

Dear Members,

This week I am sending a smorgasbord of tidbits from which you can pick and choose. I have saved some tidbits for next time……. I like to keep each blog post short and to the point. Happy reading!

FR-BAR "As Is" Contract

If you regularly deal with the FR-BAR contract form, you will be very interested in a recent ruling out of the 3rd DCA. The court's opinion is a good discussion of how the various clauses work together (inspection period and cancellation rights, radon gas disclosure, open permits, default provisions, remedies and others). If nothing else, read the part about the award of attorneys fees! Here is a link to the case.

Webinars and other education

Have you noticed the new Weekly Education Highlights email? It comes out every Monday and was launched on July 9. Rather than sending separate emails promoting individual events or offerings, we are consolidating education information in one weekly email. Our overall goal is to reduce the number of emails that you receive from us every week! We will be making other changes in the future so your feedback on this first effort would be helpful.

Real Property, Probate and Trust Law Section update

The governing body of RPPTL, the Executive Council, meets 4 times a year at various places around Florida. Generally, Thursday afternoon and all-day Friday are devoted to various (many!) committee meetings. Saturday morning is when the entire Executive Council comes together to hear reports, discuss issues of importance and vote on Section initiatives or positions. Committee meetings and the Executive Council meeting are open to all Section members and I encourage your attendance! The discussion that takes place at committee meetings can be very interesting and informative. The next meeting is December 6, 7 and 8th in Orlando. You can get the full meeting schedule a www.rpptl.org. If you have any questions, let me know.

Predicting the Future

What do you think will be your biggest business challenge in the next 5 years? Is it avoiding wire fraud? Retirement strategy? Bringing in new business/marketing? Transitioning to eClosings? These are a few topics some Members have shared with me. Shoot me an email and give me your thoughts.

Let me know how we can help you.
