An A+ Week: ADA, Affiliate Assembly, Advocacy & ALTA

Check out the latest updates from Fund General Counsel Melissa Jay Murphy

Dear Members,

Hope everyone is doing well.  No breaking news this week but I do have a few things to share.

First, our TitleNow PopUp Webinars resume this week with a very timely topic:  Website compliance with ADA!  My guest will be Adam Chotiner, an attorney with Shapiro Blasi Wasserman Hermann in Boca Raton.  Adam has a lot of experience and knowledge of this area and I think everyone will find it very interesting.  Thursday.  Noon.  30 minutes.  FREE!  Here is a link to register for the webinar. https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/8049820804010950411

Affiliate Assembly is scheduled for August 20 and 21st AND it is moving to an online format.  You can experience this great event at a special price - and not have to leave your office/home!  This is a first for Affiliate Assembly so take advantage of this unique opportunity to offer folks who have never had the chance to attend because of inconvenience or inability to leave the office.  In addition, just like with Assembly, attendees can view Affiliate Assembly live on the day it is broadcast, or later on demand.  Topics include Probate, FIRPTA, Title Policy Endorsements in Commercial Transactions and (my personal favorite) Remote Online Notarization.  Affiliate Assembly Online has been accredited by The Florida Bar, NALA and the Department of Financial Services.  Registration is open so visit https://www.thefund.com/affiliateassembly.aspx to learn more.

Digital BootCamp:  If you would like to get a national view of what is going on with digital closings, consider registering for the MBA/ALTA Digital Bootcamp coming up August 18-20.  Speakers from FNMA,  Quicken Loans, Falcon Capital, The Fund (yours truly!), various title insurance underwriters, RON vendors…..all kinds of people involved in our industry.  Lots of updated information and practical guidance will be offered.  Here is a registration link where you can find more information about the event. https://meetings.alta.org/digital-boot-camp/

Reminder re: TITL.  I will wrap up by mentioning one of my primary roles:  as your advocate in Tallahassee.  In order to do this job and do it well, I have to support those individuals that are running for office - either re-election or for the first time.  The title insurance industry is not well understood by many of our elected officials and I have to get access to them to explain how important we are - the role we play in making sure that the Florida real estate market remains strong and viable to investors ….and homeowners.  So I am asking you to support our Political Committee - TITL.   All I ask is that you contribute your hourly billing rate for ONE HOUR.  If everyone did this, we could make a true impact in Tallahassee.   Call me or email me if you have any questions at all.   You should have received a letter outlining my request in a little bit more detail, along with a pre-paid envelope to return your check.  But you can also donate online using this link https://www.thefund.com/titl  THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR HELP!

That's all for this week.

Stay safe!
